Oral hygiene is an important part of keeping one's mouth clean by removing tarter build up to help prevent cavities, gingivitis, periodontal disease and other diseases. This is helped by a combination of frequent brushing and flossing on a daily basis.
We will work with you to learn and understand how best to care for your teeth in between your cleaning appointments to help keep good oral hygiene and prevent tarter build up.
Regular cleanings and dental exams are an important part of preventative care. An initial inspection is done by our dental hygienist of your teeth and gums. If you have an area of concern or are due of x-rays our hygienist will take digital x-rays of your teeth and mouth followed by:
Digital X-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film giving us the ability to digitally transfer and enhance images for better treatment diagnosing.
Digital X-rays are used as part of a routine examination to rule out dental disease, and also aid your dentist in diagnosing any specific or isolated dental problems you might be experiencing. We are able to check for cavities and evaluate the extent of decay to better treat you.
Oral cancer is any cancerous tissue growth located in the mouth. It may arise as a primary lesion originating in any of the oral tissues, by metastasis from a distant site of origin, or by extension from a neighboring anatomic structure, such as the nasal cavity or the maxillary sinus. Oral or mouth cancer most commonly involves the tissue of the lips or the tongue. It may also occur on the floor of the mouth, cheek lining, gingiva (gums), or palate (roof of the mouth).
The goal of oral cancer screening is to identify mouth cancer early, when there is a greater chance for a cure. We will perform an examination of your mouth during a routine dental visit to screen for oral cancer.
Periodontal Disease can be caused by poor brushing and flossing habits that allow plaque (a sticky film of bacteria) to build up on the teeth producing toxins that irritate and inflame the gums. This condition is known as gingivitis, the first stage of gum disease. If plaque it not removed, it can harden to form tartar, or calculus on your teeth and below the gum tissue causing bone loss. In advanced stages of periodontal disease you can experience sore, bleeding gums; painful chewing problems; and even tooth loss.
After diagnosis, we will discuss the best options for you to treat the periodontal disease. When your treatment is completed we will give you recommendations for your continuing care.
We have extended services for anyone experiencing a tooth pain or emergency after hours or on weekends. Please visit our site and contact us immediately at 770.461.3921
